The breathtaking view of Fish River Canyon
The next two days were days of driving, hours and hours through this huge country. During the night we stayed in “Chameleon Backpackers” in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. But the city is not spectacular so definitely not worth a visit. So after two days of long driving we finally reached another Namibian highlight: the Fish River Canyon. This canyon is the second largest canyon of the world and is formed 650 million years ago. We parked our car at the “Main Viewpoint” and made two short hikes to “Hikers Point” and “Sunset Point”. Like Sossusvlei, this is a splendid natural phenomenon that you have to see with your own eyes.
In the afternoon we drove to the Ai-Ais-Resort. This is resort is located at the end of the Canyon. This is one of the best places in Namibia to stay for a night (or two). This lovely located resort has several accommodation possibilities, an outside hotspring of 65° C, an outside swimming pool, a restaurant, a shop and a spa with pools of 35°C and 50°C. Finally it was time to head south as our time had run out, so after a day of relaxing we had again a long day of driving back to Cape Town.
The combination of the excellent weather, the variety of landscapes and some adventurous activities made Namibia one of the most beautiful destinations I have ever visited!
Thanks again to Simon for the blogs and pictures. Hope we see you back in Africa soon!
Here a few lucky dip pics from the Road Trip to finish off with.
