Nuarro Luxury Eco Lodge aims to inspire
loading...
Before Nuarro Luxury Eco Lodge opened its doors to visitors wanting to fully experience Memba Bay in the Nampula province in northern , a community existed in the area. Rather than claim ownership of the land, Nuarro Lodge works together with the local community, considering them co-owners of the land.
The lodge has operated in this way from the very beginning. It was built by the local people using natural resources. Skilled builders, carpenters and electricians assisted in training the local unskilled people in construction, thus helping the local community to empower themselves. Other ways in which the lodge has participated in and helped to uplift the community includes the building of a multi-functional community centre, agricultural projects, entrepreneurial opportunities and greater social development. Added to this, the community’s association (ANAN) will receive a fee for each overnight stay and each motorised activity at Nuarro.

Located at the top of a sandy dune and offering one of many spectacular views of Memba Bay, is Nuarro’s reception area. From here, twelve luxury beach front chalets are within walking distance. These spacious chalets were designed with a traditional African theme by a local French architect. Surrounded by lush dune vegetation, the chalets offer guests a private sanctuary with stunning views in every direction. Guests can laze on their extra long king size bed while looking out large windows at scenes of the bay or the Baobab forest. Ten of the chalets have optional twin beds upstairs for families. They are all beautifully adorned with crafted furniture and ornaments which help to make guests feel instantly at home.

If you’re not relaxing on your bed or in the lounge, another spot suited perfectly for this purpose is the large wooden veranda outside, complete with sun loungers and hammock. Footsteps from the ocean, here guests can watch the sun shed its first light on the surrounding beauty. A cup of coffee served on the balcony before breakfast can complete a perfect beginning to your day. And if you’re still feeling a little sleepy, an invigorating shower either inside or outside should be sure to get your blood pumping for a fun-filled day ahead.
A holiday in Mozambique wouldn’t be complete without experiencing its exciting underwater world. Nuarro’s Marine Activity Centre includes a fully equipped dive centre with experienced PADI and IANTD diving instructors available at any time to train individuals or groups of any level. The dive centre has everything any diver could dream of, including classrooms for training, dive computers, a wash area, fully equipped motorised dive boats adapted from traditional dhows, CDs with photos and short movies of dives and underwater cameras available for rental. Nuarro’s proximity to the continental shelf provides visitors with remarkable locations ready to satisfy any diver, from the beginner to the most experienced. The learner diver can enjoy Nuarro’s home reef where there are shallow areas decorated by coral bommies. Extraordinary shore dives and boat dives are offered within Memba Bay. Divers looking for more of a challenge will enjoy Baixo do Pinda’s stunning walls, where the currents are stronger and there is a large pelagic life. Nanatha Bay offers dramatic bottom topography, vertical drop-offs and shallow caves. Warm, clear water containing colourful pinnacles and coral and fish diversity makes the experience unforgettable.
The lodge offers a choice of other activities as well, such as exploring mangroves, secluded bays and deserted beaches while sea kayaking, snorkelling, whale and dolphin watching (seasonal) and fly fishing. A sunset dhow cruise takes guests on traditional wooden dhows to private beaches and dhow sailing trips allow guests to discover Nacala Port, Ilha de Moçambique and Lúrio Falls. These spots can also be visited on 4×4. Other land-based activities include a trip to the Baixo do Pinda light house and fishing village, eco-trails on foot or mountain bike, bird watching and a cultural village tour and interactive activities with the friendly Makua villagers.
