Cycling in Cape Point Nature Reserve
Cape Point Nature Reserve – a must visit for any visitor to Cape Town during their stay here. And if you can, why not cycle through it, rather than drive. Smell the fresh ocean air, the delicate scents of the pristine fynbos, see the birds and great views that most others will miss as they whizz by. And cycle to the most southwestern tip of Africa! We did it as our end of year function this year. Here is the crew heading north from the Cape of Good Hope, cycling along the coast towards Platboom beach, where one sees the azure blue of the icy Atlantic Ocean, and the odd ostrich walking in the fynbos or on the sand. Always a bit odd, when one only expects to see them in the desert. We followed our ride with a fabulous lunch at the Cape Farmhouse restaurant, tucked away under Red Hill, just next to the awesome soapstone craft market. See:www.capefarmhouse.co.za for more on this quiet gem. A great place to lunch if you ever on a tour of the Cape Peninsula. It is also an excellent live music often. For those who were still able to get back on their bikes after lunch, we took a downhill cruise to Scarborough, misty Cliffs and Witsands, along the scenic Atlantic Coast, wind behind us as it had been all day, and finished at Witsands. Mental note: never fear the Cape Doctor, this was all done in a howling South Easter. No problem. So get out there and explore people. Its all happening on the Cape Peninsula.
