Culinary Tours with African Relish
loading...
Are you looking for something new to do? This fab new concept in niche tourism is set to take off in South Africa: Culinary Tours. And this particular one is tucked away in the most scenic holiday destination in the Little Karoo: Prince Albert. If you have any interest in food (eating and making it), take this chance to combine a completely unique experience with a scenic journey into South Africa’s backwaters.
You will be accommodated in well-appointed cottages in the village, and cook together with the chefs and teachers Reza and Vanie in the main African Relish farmhouse kitchen. You will pick local produce from the gardens, and learn how to craft it into gourmet dishes. It is hard not to fall in love with the place: set at the foot of the Swartberg Pass and the Karoo plains, and well known for its olives and figs, Prince Albert truly is a gem of a village.
This is an excellent experience for local South Africans or visitors from abroad. For locals it is something new in a great setting. For those abroad visting SA, it is well worth putting aside and extra couple of nights for and is conventiently located in between Cape Town and the Garden Route via Route 62, so for those driving this route anyway it is perfect. Contact us for more info on how best to approach the route and plan your itinerary.
Eating famous food is a rare enjoyment, but preparing it in the authentic kitchens of its origins is a thrill all of its own. African Relish is established in the tradition of the great chefs who share their brilliance, not only at the table but also in their kitchens, with those whose passion is fabulous food and the secrets that lie behind the cuisine of legends.
South African gastronomy now takes its rightful place in the international showcase through the founding of African Relish in one of the most beautiful villages in the Karoo. Our guests will cook and eat with masters of their culinary domain, and share with them the contemporary gourmet experience of great South African food.
Prince Albert is at the historic heart of the region. Its durability as a calm green refuge through times of drought and deprivation on the great plains that surround it, has been proved and tempered, and it emerges as an exciting living picturebook of all that is beautiful and delicious.

African Relish is also combining some legends of tourism to be guests on certain scheduled departures so look out for info on that. For example: Rob Caskie from Fugitive’s Drift speaking on the Anglo Zulu war.
For more details have a look at the African Relish website (currently under construction) or contact us to book.
