School holidays coming up very fast, everyone is in overdrive trying to attend school plays, carol services, end of year work functions and more. Phew, its hectic! Then suddenly the holidays are here and now what. Kids are at home and so are parents. Rare for some! Ideas for what to do, especially now that the weather is here to enjoy the outdoors. First things first: pick the low hanging fruit. Here are a couple of ideas.

Clifton and Camps Bay Beach

IDEA 1: Go to the beach for breakfast. Firstly: it is free of charge! Cape Town is blessed with some of the finest beaches in the world… and they are all within a 10-20 minute drive of the city and suburbs. If you have youngsters you will be up at sparrows anyway, so get the troops organised, chuck the basics in the car and go. Before the sun is too hot and burny you can beat the crowds and ensure a long pleasant beach experience before noon. The best and closest parking will be available, plus front row seats next to the ocean. Leave whenever things are getting too hot or crowded and you end up with plenty of day left to enjoy. Try Camps Bay or Muizenberg for starters. Both have oodles of parking, great beachfront cappucinno shops and delis. Enjoy.

Muizenberg Beach

IDEA 2: Walk on the Sea Point Promenade. Also free of charge, Cape Town’s version of New York’s Central Park is great any time of day. Especially at sunset on those idyllic summer days, when the ocean is glassy and the sun is melting over the horizon like a big poached egg. The promenade is 3km long and has so much variety. There is always space for everyone and so many things to do. It can host multiple soccer games, picnics and many revellers on the endless lawns. There are 4 fully stocked play areas with roundabouts, swings, slides etc for the kids. Colorful locals and visitors complete the scene. Get there and enjoy!
